Researcher / Senior Researcher Positions for a project on:

Extreme Conditions: multiple, complex & cascading

The Minerva Center for the Study of the Rule of Law under Extreme Conditions at the University of Haifa invites applications for two Researcher/Senior Researcher positions. These positions, which can be full-time or part-time, will be for a duration of  up to two years in the framework of a project on Extreme Conditions: multiple, complex & cascading.

Research Focus Areas:

We are seeking candidates who can contribute to the Center’s mission by exploring the intersections of democracy, the rule of law (domestic and international), and/or technology under extreme conditions. These conditions may include, but are not limited to armed conflicts, political unrest and instability, natural disasters and complex emergencies involving combinations of the above, which will be the focus of the project. Additionally, researchers will have the unique opportunity to participate in a dynamic bi-weekly forum alongside young German scholars, fostering collaboration and generating synergistic insights on these critical themes.

Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree (usually a PhD) in a relevant field such as law, political science, public policy, planning, or a related discipline.
  • A strong academic record and the ability to produce high-quality academic research.
  • Experience in addressing theoretical aspects of the rule of law, democracy, and/or technology in extreme conditions, as well as the practical implications for policy-making.
  • Proven ability to write and develop high-quality research proposals.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct innovative research that contributes to the theoretical and practical understanding of the complex intersection of the rule of law, democracy, and/or technology under extreme conditions.
  • Engage in/lead real-time policy discussions through round tables, short papers, and other relevant formats.
  • Collaborate with other researchers at the Center and contribute to its overall academic output.
  • Participation in bi-weekly seminars and 2 workshops which will be held in Israel and Germany

  • A detailed CV highlighting relevant experience and qualifications.
  • A cover letter describing your research interests and how they align with the mission of the Minerva Center.
  • A research proposal on the intersections of democracy, the rule of law, and/or technology under extreme conditions (1 to 3 pages) outlining your planned research during the period of the position.
